Offline
On my trips the phone goes away for the whole trip. Here is how that works, and why I do it.

How it works
On the first evening everyone puts their phone in a bag, and I keep the bags until the last day. If you want photos, bring a camera without internet.
Before the trip I'll tell you what to sort out at home first: messages, work and the people who might need you.
Why
Ten days is long enough to stop reaching for your pocket. Without a screen in your hand, dinner turns into conversation, and you remember the streets because you had to look at them.
If there's an emergency
I keep one phone switched on for the group, for emergencies and logistics. Before the trip you'll get a number your family can call. [PENDIENTE]
What you get out of it
Time that belongs to the trip. Long conversations in English with people from other countries, with nobody checking a translation app halfway through.
